Enjoy Hanmer Springs
Famous for its therapeutic thermal hot pools, Hanmer Springs is the perfect place to soak, relax and indulge. With a range of pools, including relaxing rock pools, soothing sulphur pools and an array of water jets and bubbles, you can choose your temperature and soak your worries away. Surrounded by dramatic mountains and towering forests, this charming town has a cutesy main street filled with boutique shops, cafes and eateries.
Look a little further from the main street and you’ll discover the Hurunui region has plenty on offer. The Waipara area is home to over 90 vineyards and 30 cellar doors. Foodies will adore the abundance of gourmet restaurants, olive groves and nut farms. Or why not stop by the local lavender fields or the Iron Ridge Quarry Sculpture Park, an outdoor gallery filled with native plants that was formerly a lime works.
For the adventurous at heart
Experience jetting across just a few centimetres of water and rotating through exhilarating 360-degree spins as a qualified and professional driver navigates you through narrow gorges, braided shallows and rapids of the Waiau River canyon. Or do you fancy a bungy jump from 35-metres above the river? There’s also river rafting, canoeing and quad-biking all close by. Lots of must-dos for those with a need to get the adrenaline pumping!

There’s an abundance of walking tracks and mountain bike trails in and around Hanmer Springs and North Canterbury. Bring your own bikes or hire them locally; you’ll find a range of tracks and trails to suit all skill levels.
